Sacrifice

I mentioned this video about a month and a half ago.  In light of this BBC New article about the video, and the election coming to a close, I thought I’d embed it again.  Made by a veteran of the war who has something to say about Barack Obama’s comments and the sacrifices of our soldiers.  Watch the video, then vote McCain.

Waiting for Sarah.

This is the line around 4:30, going away from the building. See the people on the sidewalk (to the right), that is the same line after wrapping a few blocks. The Civic Center is in the distance, across from the church.

Waiting patiently to see Sarah Palin, a block or two away.

Waiting patiently to see Sarah Palin, a block or two away.

After waiting for a couple hours, the line becomes more of a mob and makes it back towards the civic center.

After waiting for a couple hours, the line becomes more of a mob and makes it back towards the civic center.

Melanie and I traveled to the mountains yesterday to see Governor Palin at the Asheville Civic Center.   I’ll write about the rally itself tomorrow, but tonight I want to comment on the experience before the rally.

Amazed was an understatement.  I was touched, appalled, thrilled, disappointed, exhilarated and at times irate.  Imagine a character-rich small downtown with the fall colored mountains in the background, and southerners of all ages waiting patiently to see a great American speak.  Now set all of that in Berkley California, complete with Code Pink crazies and a few hundred hippie-zombies… and you have some idea what the pre-rally experience was like.

Melanie and I arrived around 4:15.  By that time, the line had already wrapped three blocks.  Thousands of people had been waiting for hours by the time we arrived, and countless more got in line behind us.  Each of us were in for a treat.

There were homemade signs, t-shirts, and hats of all designs.  People with their parents, grandparents and kids.  From near and far, including neighboring states, thousands of people showed up to support Sarah Palin and John McCain.  There were a few enterprising capitalists selling buttons by the wagon full, and a slew of Asheville liberals encouraging us all to get out of town.

For the most part we just waited patiently in line and took it all in.  What a remarkably American experience this was, and quite certainly a brief part of this moment in history.

In front of us in line were two lovely retired ladies.  Over the hours we waited together, we learned they live in Florida and were heading back this week in time to vote.  They were thrilled to see Sarah Palin and very concerned over Barack Obama and the threat he poses to our country and its liberties.  I was touched how engaged and informed these lovely women were, and honored to spend our time with them in line.  They understood an Obama administration poses a greater threat to my future than theirs, but they were adamant about opposing him nonetheless.  This is an America they had spent a lifetime contributing to, and they were not about to sit idly by and watch it lost for the next generation.

In stark contrast to the women in front of us were the teenagers behind.  Not old enough to vote, not experienced enough to understand paying taxes or making payroll, but nonetheless convinced that Barack Obama was the answer to all ills.  They had fallen hard into the Lemming Groupthink that pervades the youth, the media, and the left.  To them Barack Obama was the savior of the world.  They wondered loudly how stupid Palin must be, or how much the black guy selling Palin buttons must have been paid to sell Palin gear instead of protesting against her.

Other than their obvious naivete, the teens seemed mostly respectful and waited patiently in line.  They claimed they were there to listen and learn, but the Obama shirts and stickers they were wearing and the comments they were making proved their minds were already made up.  It was cool to support Obama and even cooler to hate Sarah Palin… and if anything, these kids wanted to be cool.  As we got closer to the door, their true purpose started to come out.  They started zipping up their coats and turning their shirts inside out because they wanted to go into the rally in disguise and then cause some chaos once things began.

Overhearing all of this, I had to turn and interject.  “Why hide your support,” I asked.  “If that is what you believe, then be proud of it.  You shouldn’t have to hide what you believe in or go in disguise.”  This seemed to stun them a bit, and they didn’t know how to respond.  Finally, one guy said he didn’t want the cops to prevent him from getting inside.  I told him it wasn’t an Obama rally and Conservatives don’t bar free speech.  He chuckled a little, but had no reply, and we left it at that.  I don’t know if they got inside or not, but I do hope they learned something from the day.  Conservatives and Republicans are not the racist rich fat cats that they thought, and most everyone was respectful and cordial to them, even though they were clearly looking for more.

Unlike our misguided friends in line, some real crazies and vile individuals were out.  There was a guy in a Dolphins jersey across the street yelling that Sarah Palin was a witch (or its more profane cousin), and a woman dressed like Palin carrying a sign asking to be saved from herself.  Another young woman walked down the street with a sign and chanting “Don’t be stupid. Vote your brain not your gender,” however her vulgar t-shirt comparing President Bush to a part of her anatomy short-circuited her argument. There was a guy carrying around a MILF poster that said “Moron I’d Like to Forget”, and some much more profane signs and posters I won’t care to repeat.  Some of the protesters were respectful but most were not and virtually all of them needed a bath.

Isn’t it great that Sarah Palin’s son is overseas fighting for the rights of these misguided people to protest against her?  Free speech is great, maybe they should look at the Obama campaign’s attempts at stifling speech to understand if he is elected this may be the last chance they get to take a stand.

I’m at once both worried about our future and relieved by the extent of our freedoms.  Dear God I hope it lasts.

We finally got in the rally at 7:30 or so.  We were 9 and 10 of the last 30 people they let inside before the fire marshall barred the door. More on the rally itself tomorrow.

300 Retired Generals and Admirals Endorse John McCain for President

Press Release from the McCain Campaign.
Released September 26, 2008.
H/T: Maritime Sentry

ARLINGTON, VA – U.S. Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign today announced that 300 retired generals and admirals from around the country are endorsing John McCain for president. The retired generals and admirals announced their support with the following letter:

“We have had the honor and privilege of serving as career officers in the United States Armed Forces, and of serving shoulder to shoulder with so many of the fine young men and women who are the backbone of America’s Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. It is that experience that informs our judgment that John McCain is the presidential candidate best suited to serve as America’s Commander-in Chief from the day of his inauguration.

“Our next president will confront national security challenges as significant as those faced by any administration in at least a generation. Success will require a leader with proven tenacity, judgment and courage. It will also require a leader with detailed knowledge of our military and other instruments of national power, and with years of experience dealing seriously with foreign leaders.

“John McCain’s entire life has been devoted to the service of America. Throughout a long and distinguished career in the military and in Congress, he has repeatedly displayed the courage and integrity to place America’s interests first — regardless of personal cost. And he has demonstrated the experience and wisdom to lead America — and, importantly, our allies — in effectively dealing with complex and vitally important national security challenges around the world.

“We unequivocally endorse him to continue his service to the country as the next President of the United States.”

Governor Palin with Katie Couric

Watch the entire foreign policy segment of Governor Palin’s interview with Katie Couric.

The Governor gets a little tongue tied when asked about her comment that Alaska is close in proximity with Russia.  I think Sarah Palin is being a little too handled by the McCain campaign and that’s causing her to parse and stumble.  The point she was trying to make with Charlie Gibson originally is that it is a small world and like it or not, our national interests are often global interests.  We can not let the Russian Bear spread its claws again without countering it every step of the way.  That may seem abstract for us in the continential United States who are far removed from the Russians… but when you can litterally see Russian soil from your home state you have a different perspective on the threat an aggressive Russia poses.

As for the last little bit about Israel.  What the heck is Couric trying to do?  Of course we are not going to prevent Israel from defending itself and we would never publicly tell them what they can or cannot do.  Doing so with an ally would jeopardize our own sovereignty and we should not be interferring with their own self defense unless we would accept the same interference if the roles were reversed.  Nonetheless, as an ally, of course we work with them to strengthen their position and thus strengthen our own.  Of course we seek to find a common point to counter the spread of evil.  But if Israel ever feels the threat from Iran is immediate and imminent, you can bet we neither could nor would stand in their way.  Nor should we.

John McCain’s latest ad. Change is coming.

Restore Integrity in our Markets and in Washington.

Governor Palin was in Colorado yesterday.  Our chances for real reform and the restoration of integrity in our markets and in Washington are much better with Sarah Palin and John McCain.  The video starts with her talking about the bank crisis.  She was relatively specific in the problems that a McCain/Palin administration would seek to fix.

Enough is Enough

Sacrifice.

I came across this video on Meghan McCain’s blog. I think it speaks for itself. Watch the whole thing.

McCain Ad: Crisis.

Our economy in crisis. Only proven reformers John McCain and Sarah Palin can fix it. This sure is timely.

Homecoming

Governor Palin returned to Alaska today. Here’s her speaking with the crowd after getting off the plane in Fairbanks.

Awesome Palin Story from the Campaign Trail

Via NRO, a mother who unexpectedly met Governor Palin on the campaign trail called Rush Limbaugh :

CALLER: And I wanted to share a story with you. A week ago last Saturday we went to the Palin-McCain rally in Washington, Pennsylvania, was the day after he announced her, and we have a five-year-old daughter with Down syndrome, and we made a sign that said: “We Love Kids with Down Syndrome.” So when they pulled in their bus the sign did catch their, McCain and Palin and the rest of their family, it caught their eye, we could tell, they gave us a thumbs-up from the bus, so we were all excited just by that —So then we moved around as the bus was getting ready to pull out, we kind of positioned ourselves so we could just wave them on and a Secret Service agent came up to us and said, “Hey, can you come with us?” I was like, “Do we have a choice?”

RUSH: (laughing) You shouldn’t have worried. It’s not the Clinton administration.

CALLER: Right. So we accompanied them up the hill, we went right to the bus, where it was, and Governor Palin, Senator McCain, Cindy, Todd Palin, they’re all standing there. We’re in this inner circle with just us and them, and the Secret Service agent, and they came right up to us and thanked us for coming out, said they loved our sign, and Governor Palin immediately said, “May I hold your daughter?” and our daughter Chloe, who’s five, went right to her, and I have some pictures I’d love to send you maybe when I’m done here, but Governor Palin was hugging Chloe, and then her little daughter brought their baby Trig who has Down syndrome from the bus, he was napping, and Chloe went right over and kissed him on the cheek, and my son Nolan who’s nine, he thanked her.

Pictures and a complete transcript are available via Rush’s website.

Judge Wapner Was Better Anyway

Trying to remain relevant, former New York Mayor and People’s Court Judge Ed Koch issued a letter proclaiming his devotion to the Great Obama and spreading lies about Sarah Palin in the process.

Koch’s letter continues the FALSE rumors that as mayor of Wassila, Sarah Palin banned books. We posted on this debunked rumor previously. Facts regarding this rumor are also available via FactCheck.org.

Unfortunately, Koch didn’t bother to do any research before deciding to submit to the ObamaMessiah, and today released his letter even though the book banning rumor is old news. Might I suggest the mayor visit our site before his next attempt to interject himself in national politics.

Besides the book-banning lie, Koch cites the protection of Israel as an important consideration in choosing who to support in the upcoming election. While McCain/Palin are undoubetdly supporters of the state of Israel, Obama and Biden are less certain.  Obama and Biden have made it clear they won’t stand up to Iran, Israel’s greatest threat.
