This morning, the United States Supreme Court over-turned the Washington D.C. ban on handguns, stating in part:
Whatever the reason, handguns are the most popular weapon chosen by Americans for self-defense in the home, and a complete prohibition of their use is invalid.
In sum, we hold that the District’s ban on handgun possession in the home violates the Second Amendment, as does its prohibition against rendering any lawful firearm in the home operable for the purpose of immediate self-defense.
This is a great day for America. Its sad that this issue had to be brought to the Supreme Court in the first place, as the right to bear arms is paramount to maintaining a free citizenry protected from an overbearing government. And in a time when the Supreme Court has made some pathetic decisions, its nice to see, at least in regards to the right to protect oneself, that the Second Amendment will not be trampled upon.
