When I tell people that, contrary to liberal white-washing of history, the Republican Party is the civil rights party… I get blank stares or arguments of disbelief. Why pay attention to history when you have the media spoon feeding you what you want to hear? And I’m not just talking about Black Americans either. It seems whites want to believe that the Republican Party is built upon racism too. Luckily La Shawn Barber, explains why the GOP is the Civil Rights Party and then tells us why it doesn’t even matter.
Knowing history is important, obviously, and all this makes for good reading. But I need to break it you: blacks who vote for Democrats do not care about this history. The only bit of history they care about is the one that provides excuses and finger-pointing opportunities: ancestors in bondage, great-grandparents and grandparents struggling to gain first class citizenship in this country, etc. They don’t care who did what to or for whom in the past. All they care about is who’s offering them the most goodies today.
That argument certainly comes better from La Shawn than some white bread southerner like myself, but I think it over simplifies the current problem. Its not just the black vote that collectively only cares about “who’s offering them the most goodies today,” its pretty much everyone who supports Barack Obama and the DNC.
From free health care to a free pass on your missed mortgage payments… simultaneous handouts to the poor while stealing from the rich… free college tuition and free citizenship for illegal aliens… its popular to ask and expect your country to do for you. People in both parties are guilty of this presently, but nothing compares to the pandering and platitudes the DNC and Barack Obama are currently offering. All you need is to elect him President and you will have the government’s teat to suck on indefinitely.
But isn’t that inherently racist? If a candidate or a party en mass spends their time promising you handouts for everything, don’t you wonder why they think you can’t do anything for yourself? It is an elitist, bigoted attitude to tell Americans we can’t save for our own retirement… we can’t possibly understand our own mortgage paperwork… we can’t work hard to pay for our own college tuition… we can’t have our own money to do with what we want… we can’t make our own decisions. It is an elitist, bigoted attitude that tells you that the government is better served, better educated and better equipped to handle all of your needs, so just vote for Obama and he’ll take care of you.
I believe Blacks and Whites alike are smart enough to take care of themselves. I believe the government needs to do less for you, because without their interference (or hand in your wallet), you can do more for yourself. From Black Americans fighting for equal rights, to the suffrage movement, legal immigrants, and even the first settlers in the earliest colonies… America used to be about the freedom of opportunity to do for yourself and make your own way. But that appears lost. After years of increasing social programs and class warfare, breaking the electorate down along social and economic lines… we have become increasingly dependent on the government to tell us who we are and what we believe while giving us what they think we need.
That’s a far cry from the founders, the pioneers of old, or Dr. King’s dream. But I’m the White Republican, so I’m the racist.
