Apparently Roland Burris is about to be seated in the United States Senate. All of the racial charges appear to have worked, and it doesn’t matter who appointed you or how many people want to stop you… just throw racist charges at a politician, and they’ll tuck their tails and run away.
Roland Burris probably should be seated, but the tone of the conversation from Mr. Burris, Bobby Rush and others taints Mr. Burris and his Senate tenure much more than being appointed by corrupt Governor Blagojevich ever could. The election of Barack Obama proves that blanket racism is mostly dead in this country, at least in a general sense… yet the abusive use of the race card for political and personal gain is more prevalent than ever. Its a sad day in our country indeed when we can move forward as a nation but the rhetoric continues to move backward. The content of your character no longer matters if political power is on the line.
Two things are crystal clear regarding this appointment.
- Roland Burris has no character. Anyone who was more concerned about the state and the citizens would have turned down the appointment… but his quest for power and prestige trumped any ethical quarrels.
- Bobby Rush is a lying hypocrite who doesn’t deserve the office he holds or the cameras that follow his every race-baiting word. He was one of the first people to say that any Blago-appointment should be blocked only to come back and say that any opposition to Blago’s appointment was racist. Anyone who is actually still fighting battles along racial lines is done a terrible disservice by transparent hate-insighting jerks like Bobby Rush.
