Here’s a tip… go somewhere else.

I’m not unsympathetic to the extra challenges people face who have this disability or other impairment… but when I read about a deaf woman suing McDonald’s because a specific restaurant didn’t take her order at the drive-thru window, my skin starts to crawl.

At least three times since September 2007 workers at a Lincoln McDonald’s refused to let her place her order at the drive-thru window, Tumeh said.

So does McDonald’s have a corporate policy of being mean to the deaf? Nope, just one bad store who who didn’t accommodate this woman three times.

Other McDonald’s restaurants in Lincoln have accommodated Tumeh, Mora James said.

And it’s not really that ordering in the drive-thru is necessary because of her deafness… but because she has autistic children who need to be watched, so she can’t always go inside.

Tumeh is physically capable of walking inside to order, but that’s not the point, her attorney, Shirley Ann Mora James, said Tuesday.

“She has children who are autistic, and if they’re having difficulties, it would make it problematic for her,” Mora James said.

So is it about complying with the ADA and being able to order in the drive-thru? Or is it about helping a mother with autistic children? Or is it about the money?

She also seeks unspecified damages and attorney’s fees. McDonald’s corporate headquarters did not immediately return a message seeking comment Tuesday by The Associated Press.

I guess we got our answer.

Again, I’m not unsympathetic to the challenges a deaf woman with autistic children faces when she wants her #3 combo and Super-Sized fries, but since other McDonald’s accommodated her and other burger joints accommodated her… then is a lawsuit really necessary? For three bad experiences?

I have bad experiences at restaurants all the time. Sometimes they might even be worth a lawsuit… but instead of suing you know what we do… WE DON’T GO BACK. So why not try that instead of using a nuisance as an excuse to hire an ambulance chaser and make a quick buck? If one McDonald’s has an employee or two that don’t understand you deserve extra special accommodations, go to Burger King. A Whopper is much better than a Big Mac anyway.

Why is it that Americans think everyone must protect their precious feelings and comply to their every want or desire? And if they don’t… well, we’re gonna sue you. If something on the radio or tv offends you, CHANGE THE CHANNEL. If a restaurant doesn’t accommodate you, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. It’s pretty simple really. Patronize the places you agree with that give you good service, don’t give your money to places that don’t. If the Big Mac is that darn important, maybe you have more problems than not being able to order in the drive-thru.
