George Bush, Back to the Future.
Around 9:40pm Eastern Time Barney Smith, a “real” American, addressed Invesco Field tonight. In Barney’s “real” American story, you learned that he lost his job to an overseas worker in 2000 and that it was George Bush’s fault. Barney Smith lost his job because George Bush cared more about Smith Barney than he did Barney Smith.
Of course Harry Reid, and the rest of the Obama Lemmings whose rose to their feet applauding Barney missed one little detail… George Bush wasn’t inaugurated until January 2001. Unless he filled the Flux-Capacitor and floored his Delorian back a year, I’m not sure how President Bush could have cost dear old Barney his job.
Facts are pesky little things for the Democrats plauged by Bush Derangement Syndrome. I guess they don’t really matter with the Obamamessiah waiting in the Barackopolis wings.
CORRECTION? So either my wife and I heard Barney wrong (maybe), Barney misspoke (more likely), or this article is inaccurate… but it seems that Barney might just have lost his job in 2004 not 2000. To bad we gave up Tivo so we can’t go back and check. I guess it must have been George Bush’s fault that Barney lost his job after all. I’m sure it had nothing to do with the decline in demand for the cathode ray tube televisions that Barney was making. Do they even sell those anymore?

Barney did not mis-speak. He clearly stated that he lost his job in 2004. He also NEVER mentioned the name George W. Bush. He stated that he lost his job and found it more difficult than ever before to find a new one. He stated that we do not see Republicans putting America first in Marion Indiana. He was stating that the Republicans do not pay attention to the common man. Than you for proving him right.
I wasn’t the only one who thought he said 2000, but I also put the “correction?” note on the post less than an hour after I originally wrote it. I still haven’t found video of his speech, but if you say he CLEARLY said 2004, that’s fine. I’ll believe you, although I disagree that he said it “clearly” because I don’t think he spoke very “clearly” to begin with.
But he did mention George W. Bush. Whether he said “George W. Bush” or not, he certainly was talking about President Bush when he made his Smith Barney crack. And either way, I’m sorry to tell you, dear Barney’s anger is misguided. It’s not the President’s fault that Barney’s cathode-ray tube televisions are being made overseas now. Get a grip. When is the last time you shopped at Wal-Mart? When is the last time you bought something because it was the cheaper alternative? If you have, then you are responsible for Barney losing his job as much as I am or the President is.
Wake up, open an economics book, and look at where your goods are manufactured. The computer you used to type your comment on… in what country do you think the components were manufactured in?
Are you a union member? Do you have a pension or health care? Do you support Obama’s tax plan which includes increases in personal taxes, corporate taxes, capital gains taxes, etc? Those things are what cause jobs to go over seas.
I do pay attention to the common man. I am the common man. Barney didn’t prove anything and neither are you. The only thing you are proving to me is that you and Barney alike would rather complain about how life is than go out and change it for yourself. My job has been destroyed in this economy over the last year. My business is gone and I am certainly facing an uphill battle. I lost my health care, I’ve gone into debt. But I’m not blaming the government or looking for some handout… I’m improving myself and making my own changes to adapt. Ingenuity, personal responsibility and self reliance. That is what made our country great. Look into it instead of blaming everyone else.
Quit whining and get to work. I suggest dear old Barney do the same. The American Dream is there for all of us to accomplish on our own as long as the government and taxes stay out of the way. It’s not easy. It’s not supposed to be. And life deals most of us a crappy hand from time to time. I’m certainly sympathetic to that, but that doesn’t mean I get to shift blame to someone else. Whether Barney lost his job in 2000, 2004 or 2008, it was going to happen anyway. CRT Televisions aren’t being made much anymore. Eventually they won’t be made at all. But that’s not my fault, and its not our President’s either.
