Triangle Conservatives Unite organized a dinner tonight with Representative Nelson Dollar from Wake County District 36. I’m sure Representative Dollar had important things to say about fiscal responsibility and fighting the spending and corruption that has consumed the North Carolina Capitol. Unfortunately, Representative Dollar didn’t show up.
If Mr. Dollar was fighting Bev Perdue’s ridiculous $1.6 Billion Tax Hike and somehow working to prevent the budget boondoggle from becoming law… then I’ll give him a free pass. Otherwise… well… I hope there’s a good excuse. We’re not beholden to party, we’re beholden to principle. And if our leaders are not accountable to us and don’t respect our time, we’ll find someone else who will. Again, I’m giving Representative Dollar the benefit of the doubt, but I would like some answers.
Mr. Dollar’s absence notwithstanding, the meeting was not a complete loss. Frank Roche, Republican candidate for United States Congress NC District 4 happened to be in the restaurant and stopped by for an impromptu chat. Should Mr. Roche get the party nomination, he would be facing perennial windbag David Price who has been collecting a Congressman’s paycheck for 22 years. Price is a clown who hasn’t served the interests of North Carolinians for some time (if ever), so anyone who promises to challenge him peaks my interest.
Mr Roche was kind to spend some time answering our questions, and while I was impressed by his financial knowledge I’m not yet sold on his candidacy for the House of Representatives. It will be an uphill battle for Mr. Roche to sell me and other grassroots patriots on his candidacy considering the brief time he has been in this state. But I am listening… we all are listening. Frank Roche showed up.
The grassroots keeps growing and moving along. I’m glad to be part of it. If anyone else out there reads this, regardless of your district, regardless of your political persuasion, please get involved. The government is supposed to be about the people, but that can only happen when the people are silent no more.

UPDATE: A Response from Representative Dollar.
I e-mailed Representative Dollar late last night voicing my displeasure that he didn’t make the dinner meeting. A little after midnight he sent this reply.
Please accept my deepest apologies for not being at the meeting this evening. I was looking forward to being in the company of fellow conservatives. The scheduling mistake was wholly my fault. You can be assured I have been fighting the tax increases proposed by Governor Perdue and the liberal leadership in the House and Senate; including the “click-thru” tax which has already cost jobs and income across of our State.
Again I apologize and hope I will have the opportunity to make it up to the group.
Best Regards,
Nelson
While I’m not thrilled he didn’t make the meeting, I think the reply was a pretty stand-up thing to do. He didn’t try to blame someone else, he didn’t try to obscure the issue. Promptly and directly, Mr. Dollar took responsibility for himself, apologized for missing the meeting, and answered my specific concerns about Governor Perdue’s tax plans. I wasn’t expecting a reply so immediately or directly, so Representative Dollar earns some points back on this one.
