Don’t Believe the Specter Spin

I’ve heard a number of media types and left-leaning politicians praise the strength of character it took for Arlen Specter to switch parties.

Don’t believe that spin for a second.

If Arlen Specter’s character was unimpeachable, why did he promise not to leave the party last month?

I am staying a Republican because I think I have an important role, a more important role, to play there. The United States very desperately needs a two-party system. That’s the basis of politics in America. I’m afraid we are becoming a one-party system, with Republicans becoming just a regional party with so little representation of the northeast or in the middle atlantic. I think as a governmental matter, it is very important to have a check and balance. That’s a very important principle in the operation of our government. In the constitution on Separation of powers.

Based on reports today, he obviously didn’t mean a word of that. Maybe its just me, but I don’t see lies and flip-flops as signs of someone’s character. No, this wasn’t about character, it was about self-preservation and Arlen Specter’s overwhelming desire to maintain his power. And that my friends is exactly why we don’t need him in the party or the Senate any more.

The lies and flip-flops are indeed a sign of a person’s character…or lack thereof.

  2. Celebrate the exit of Benedict Arlen Specter

[...] Benedict Arlen Specter has finally admitted his true RINO colors by announcing he was becoming a Democrat and leaving the Republican party. He even went so far as to admit that it was about his ability to get re-elected, maintain his Senate seat, and even increase his political power. [...]

  3. Arlen Specter Blame GOP for Jack Kemp's Cancer Death

[...] I wasn’t a fan of Arlen Specter’s before he let the world in on his not-so-secret Democrat fantasies… but even I didn’t expect this from him.  It’s the GOP’s fault cancer took Jack Kemp’s life?  That’s the kind of ridiculous nonsense you expect to read on some leftist blog like KOS or DU, but not out of the mouth of a guy who was praising his position in the GOP just a month ago.
