We all formed our opinions of Barack Obama, his rhetoric and his proposed policies during the campaign. But those were just opinions, projected on a man most of us still know little about. And now as President of the United States, opinions can be solidified or changed. For many, Barack Obama was a blank slate, words of “hope” and “change” allowed masses to project what they wanted to see in him. Likewise, Stalin-like posters and creepy children’s choirs reaffirmed some of our darkest fears. But all of that was theory, and at noon yesterday… the proof began. It may take days or it may take years, but projection is over and eventually only facts will remain.
President Barack Obama certainly has something George Bush never had… the good will of the people on the left. President Bush never had a shot to win the hearts and minds of the liberal masses who hated him for denying Global Warming Hoaxter Al Gore his throne. But unlike liberals, most Conservatives will give this man a fair chance. Many of us are scared about the prospects, but the old adage “trust but verify” still rings true. We “hope” and pray that Barack Obama will do well by our country for our people. We trust that his heart and mind are in the right place and that the weight of our nation’s founding will suppress any socialist tendancies. But we want verification. If President Obama does a fine job, governs well, and doesn’t turn the country the way some of his rhetoric suggests…. most Conservatives will praise him. We love our country, our liberty, our history and our sovereignty more than our party. And if President Obama does well by that, than we will do well by him.
Mr. Obama is at a crossroads, and our nation waits by his side. Waiting for direction, hoping for purpose. The power of the office and the weight of the world rest equally on his shoulders. And the faith of a people, rightly or wrongly, rest largely in him. Luckily for Mr. Obama, he already knows which path to travel… the Founding Fathers prescribed the direction and purpose so he wouldn’t have to. Lets just hope his desire for change is not so great that he loses the way. If he continues to push our country down the righteous path laid out before us, by those who came before him, a renewal truly can begin. Not in our country or its global standing… but in the hearts and minds of the masses who fell of the path years ago.
