The Speech in Cairo

Obama in CairoBarack Obama gave nearly an hour long speech this morning in Cairo, continuing his apology tour and presenting himself not as an American, but above America… as its unbiased arbiter to the rest of the world.  One day I would appreciate it if our President would stand up as our President, defend our great nation and demand respect for the high price America has paid for freedom around the world (including hundreds of thousands of Muslims).

We tweeted during parts of the speech, but honestly, after trying to pacify the Arab Muslim world, propping up the Palestinians (who rejected a two-state solution before), and saying that Iran has the right to nuclear power… I felt a bit dirty and had to go shower.  I abhor the disdain I have for my President, yet he gives me no reason to feel otherwise.  Maybe by putting us down he thinks the rest of the world will like us more.  That doesn’t work for bullies on the playground and it certainly won’t work in the Middle East.

Here’s a thought.  Let’s win.  Let’s proudly stand for Democracy, Freedom, and America’s sacrifices around the world.  Let’s stand United as Americans, first and foremost when across the globe, and not continue to play politics with America’s past.  We may have made mistakes in the minutia of our undertakings, but never in our cause.  There is no greater friend to freedom around the globe than the people of this land.

Bin Laden released another tape yesterday.  Clearly the Blame Bush / Blame America First Tour isn’t making them like us more.  The problem with Obama around the world is the same problem with some squishy Republicans at home… you don’t sell out America’s principles because you think it will make the opposition respect you more.  Few respect the spineless, fewer respect a fraud.

Read the speech for yourself.  Decide for yourself.  It wasn’t as bad as it could have been, but that shouldn’t be the benchmark with which these things are judged.  Our nation brought the right to vote to thousands of Muslim women in Afghanistan and Iraq.  Our nation removed a horrible terrorist dictator from power and sacrificed thousands of lives and billions of dollars for the freedoms of others.  Our nation developed nuclear weapons not to destroy our adversaries, but to keep our allies alive and free.  Getting rid of that arsenal will leave us vulnerable to attack.  And our nation has dedicated much of its time and treasure to peace for the Palestinian people even though they have always turned their back on any offers of peace.

I know that.  You know that.  Maybe its time our President learns the same.
