After raiding the “Education” lottery to pay for non-education budget shortfalls, and raising virtually every other tax in North Carolina over recent years… the Democrats who run this state are at it again.
The spending and tax plans presented by Gov. Perdue and Senate Democrats would repeat the pattern with up to $1 per pack more for cigarettes, a 280 percent increase in taxes on other kinds of tobacco, higher taxes on beer and alcohol, higher and more complicated income taxes, higher taxes for businesses, and a new six-percent sales tax on everything I do online, plus home repairs, car repairs, extended warranties, or even a haircut.
This will hurt the local businesses, residents and the economy at large. The building industry in North Carolina has been hit especially hard during the economic downturn, and now the state wants to tax services such as home repairs? And let’s not forget the new online taxes. When New York passed an online sales tax, the effect was companies refusing to do business in the state online. With margins so thin for most online retailers and service providers, its next to impossible for them to collect and account for special taxes for different regions in the country. The net effect will be higher costs and less choices for North Carolina consumers.
Its time to stop the spending. Our state needs to do what its citizens are doing… tighten the belt, analyze the budget, and cut spending. It might hurt, but its necessary. You have do it with your budget, the state needs to do it with theirs. As someone who spent a few years working at a state university, I can tell you how much is wasted. Its time to trim the fat and stop punishing the hard-working citizens and North Carolina businesses.
Take Action. Help stop another burdensome tax increase in North Carolina. Make your voice heard.
