Tonight my wife and I will go on our second visit to a pediatrician’s office. We are interviewing different offices in the area trying to find one that will be the right fit for our child. With his birth just a couple month’s away, the time to decide is now.
This is a complicated issue. We have to find a practice that takes our insurance with doctors who are admitted to the hospital where my wife will give birth. Failing to do that, we will have some random pediatrician assigned to us post delivery, who we would not know and who might not take our insurance.
So while our choices are somewhat limited, we still have a choice. Just as we got to choose my wife’s doctor, our birth plan, and the location of the delivery… we will get to choose the pediatrician who will care for our child. And that choice enables us to do our own due diligence to find the right doctor for our beliefs, our family, and our yet to be born son. That choice also enables us to sit in the driver’s sit and interview several practices who are competing for our business.
No matter how many times President Obama says it, I don’t believe we would have the same level of choice under ObamaCare. Think of any government program or service you have ever encountered… did you have any choice? Did you get to interview various options competing for your business… or did you wait in line and take whatever you could get (usually someone offering sub-standard service with an attitude to boot)? Do you think under ObamaCare doctors would work after hours to grant tours and answer questions to prospective patients, or just like the Post Office would the doors close promptly at 5:00pm?
I know he doesn’t want to nationalize the doctors (yet). But when he’s nationalized the care they provide, the treatments they offer and the payments they receive, won’t the effects be the same?
Every other aspect of my life tells me that my choices would be limited and care would be less under government health care… why should I ignore my instincts because Obama said so? Why should I ignore other examples of government care, other voices in his administration and other voices in congress? Just today he lied AGAIN saying he never supported single-payer health care. If we know he lied trying to sell his plan, what else is he lying about that we haven’t uncovered yet? If a salesman lies to you one time trying to sell something, they will continue to lie in order to make a sale. If I apply that logic to car dealers trying to earn a thousand bucks on a car, why not also apply it to the man trying to control 1/7th of the entire U.S. economy?
President Obama has proven you can’t believe him. So in order to find out what will happen, you have to look for other information. Think we would have a choice in selecting our pediatrician under ObamaCare? Think we would have a choice about our hospital, my wife’s doctor or even form our own birth plan? Think again.
No thank you. I’ll take my imperfect care with a somewhat limited choice over no choice at all. I’ll take doctor’s competing for our business over lotteries. I’ll take interviewing doctors from a list of approved providers over long lines and bueracrats deciding if our needs warrant care.
Tonight my wife and I get to interview peditricians competing for the care of our first child. I wonder will we have such a choice when our next one is born?
Care in this country may not be perfect, but it is the best in the world. Americans shouldn’t settle for anything less. This father certainly will not.
