To all the patriots who marched on Washington Saturday (9-12), THANK YOU. And God Bless you for taking a stand for the Liberty that is fading away. Some in the media inaccurately called it a TEA Party, an Obama Protest or a bunch of bitter Republicans. They were wrong. It wasn’t any of those things, it was ALL OF THOSE THINGS, and more.
Saturday, Patriots from across the nation marched to protest big government, big government spending, and Washington’s inability to listen to the people. Patriots marched to return our Republic to its rightful owners, not special interests or political parties, but to We The People. Patriots marched for accountability, actual transparency, and an end to the charade of expansive enlightenment programs that only strengthen politicians’ power base, not the people they are supposed to help. Patriots marched for their liberty and to protect the promise of America for the next generation.
Whenever I say we are taking our nation back and demand that Washington start listening to the people, some left wing zealot invariably retorts that Obama won the election, they have heard the people. To those I suggest that is not only a false argument, but it was a false choice to begin with. This isn’t about the last election and whether or not we approve of President Obama. Many of us don’t, but this movement would likely have occurred anyway. WE DIDN’T APPROVE OF JOHN MCCAIN EITHER. And many of us fought against President Bush for his expansion of government powers and debt. This isn’t about a party. BOTH PARTIES ARE FAILING US. This isn’t about a politician, BOTH SIDES ARE CORRUPT. This is about the people.
Our founders believed in citizen servants. They believed a man would leave his business, farm or the battlefield with a unique perspective on today’s problems and an idea how to fix them. And he would use that knowledge in service to the people for a few years or a few terms before returning back to his private life. They believed our government would be made of career doctors, lawyers, farmers, soldiers, teachers and businessmen. They never once thought it would be made of career politicians. They never once envisioned people spending their entire life holding office, running for re-election and building networks and war chests to enhance their own power. As the citizen servant became the career politician, the citizens stopped being served.
Today, nearly half of all Senators are millionaires. Most have never started a business or made a payroll. Most have never lost their health insurance, struggled to make a mortgage payment, or fought against some level of government to protect their family or property. Yet these are the people in charge? How will the President, his czars, or the members of Congress help revive this economy or create jobs when none of them have ever done it before? Small business is the backbone of this nation, yet the powers that be have proven for years that they have no comprehension of what a small business needs from its government to help them succeed. Here’s a hint: GET OUT OF THE WAY.
Do you know why Ronald Reagan was such a great leader and President? Because his experiences, not his political ambition led him to run for office. Reagan was content being an actor until he was offered a movie role that would bump him up into the next tax bracket. After some analysis, he realized that he would only earn 10 cents on every dollar. The effect of moving into the next tax bracket would be that 90% of his income from the movie roll would go to the government. He turned the offer down. How does it motivate a person when 90% of the fruits of their labor go not to the laborer, but the government? How does a system like that encourage ingenuity and success? It doesn’t and Ronald Reagan knew that. So he got involved in politics in an attempt to make a difference. He was a citizen then he was a citizen servant.
Our founders were much the same. They didn’t seek to hold office or gain massive power. They sought freedom for themselves and their families. They were mostly begrudging servants, doing the job that needed to be done on behalf of the colonies seeking to become a nation. None of them wanted to be king, most of them didn’t want to hold office. They wanted liberty. They did their part to secure that liberty, and then they got out of the way.
Patriots marched on Washington Saturday because it is time our politicians and our government get out of the way. How can the next generation have liberty when they are saddled with unpayable debts? How can people have liberty when they spend half of their income on taxes? How can small business grow from an idea to a success story when government regulation stifles their creativity and prevents their success? How can the free market work when politicians in Washington are pulling the strings and not allowing any market to be free? How can citizens be served when their representatives don’t know who they are, don’t understand where they are coming from, and refuse to listen to what they have to say.
We The People are tired. Not just of this President, but of this government and this big government idea. We are tired of so-called representatives who expect us to listen to them instead of them listening to us. Things are about to change. They are going to start listening to us. Saturday was just the beginning.
God Bless you Patriots. Thank you for speaking up and taking a stand.
